A corner of the map
Snohomish County
Monte Cristo
A Cascade mining town the road gave up on. Hikers say they still hear picks. The ruins are what is left of a boom that could not beat the weather.
Smilin’ Al
The Historic Everett Theatre needed a ghost and got a grin, named for Al Jolson, who actually played the house.
Rucker Mansion
Everett’s hill house over Port Gardner. Tour copy says Jane Rucker jumped in 1907. The family in the house says that story is a fabrication.
The Oxford Saloon
Snohomish’s brick saloon on First Street. Bordello lore, a man in a bowler, and a bathtub story that the bar tells louder than the courthouse does.
Room 9 at the Bush House Inn
Index, 1898, granite walls and a railroad. Annabelle is the name the room got. The inn’s own timeline does not confirm her.
